Memories of My Childhood
68Those were the days (I think)
Or dreams enhanced by time?
My memories of childhood,
When everything was fine.
Crunching leaves underfoot
all shades of golden brown,
Now all the leaves are soaked,
In my tiny , country town.
My memories of childhood,
When mum was still alive,
Skipping, playing hopscotch,
Picnics at the riverside.
The veggies from dads´garden,
The fresh smells of the fruit,
Does my memory play tricks?
Or were they wondrous days, ? So cute,
Well cute I look in pictures,
In those monochrome photo days,
Without those precious pictures,
memories would be a haze.
A haze of real or imagined?
It´s sometimes hard to tell.
But crunchy leaves, I´m sure of,
I remember them so well.
I miss the days of Autumn,
Now Winter seems to come,
Invades the end of Summer,
leaves no room for transition.
Transition from the hazy days of Summer,
gradually cooling down,
Now rain and lower temperatures,
leave soggy leaves of brown.
But soon it will be snowing,
A Winter Wonderland,
Though I prefer snow on the mountains,
not near my feet and hands.
My memories so grand,
If only for a longer time,
I could have held Mums´hand.
If you have memories of childhood,
That are anything like mine,
Count yourself as ´Blessed´.,
Be grateful. You can shine.!
For many other people,
childhood´s best forgotten,
memories pushed to backs of minds,
because of incidents so rotten.
When Mum was still alive,
Are glorious, precious jewels,
Locked safely in my mind.
So what if leaves are wet now?
My feet no longer crunch them,
And Summer doesn´t ´happen´here,
Yet flowers still appear....
And moon and stars still shine,
I hope that all of you, my friends,
Have SOME memories like mine.

I love this poem, kinda like my own childhood memories.

Hi Dim! I wish everyone's memories could be this wonderful. Magical! Like a child's fondest recollection...lovely. Yes, I wish it could have been this way for everyone. Also, I believe, many of us who write here remember childhood years during a time when life was so much simpler, there was not so much confusion, distraction and craziness...some were lucky enough to have a Norman Rockwell childhood. Still, in some areas; it is 'out there.'
Very beautifully written in wonderful poetry. I really enjoyed reading this and will revisit to be refreshed, invigorated and happy.
UP Beautiful Awesome Useful.
Hi Dim,
Like your poem about childhood memories,I think they are the best memories you can always envy about.(but not for all children’s)
As you had mentioned everyone will have some or other wonderful memories of childhood.
-of childhood friendship,
-of childhood games played,
-of childhood mischievous PRANKS,
-of childhood gifts and what not, it goes on and on.
I for all the childhood memories brought back and for writing a well crafted neatly written poem congratulate you and thanks for sharing with us.
I had voted this up and beautiful and awesome.
Beautiful sentiments. Very nice poem and especially very nice memories.
Wow, this was stunning and very beautiful.
Hello Dim, Your poem is so moving, I thought it absolutely lovely.
Memories are so precious.
Thank you for sharing something so special.
Aw bless you Dim. There's nothing so sweet and soothing as good memories from those innocent days. Going through pictures from childhood can be a strange paradox, so pleasing to ponder and reminisce on, yet sometimes gazed on with a unique sadness for what has come and gone, leaving only memories and a photograph. Beautiful poem Dim.
.....always so wonderful to visit your hallowed hubspace my dear friend and I just woke up this morning to Christmas and a beautiful young lady who left me an avanlanche of awe inspiring comments by the initials of DF - lol lol - and yes I had a beautiful childhood because of my mum and dad who later on in the adult world became my two best friends too!
Lucky for those of who can look back with such fondness and love because not everyone has the same situation.
This is such a tender piece of writing my friend - almost yearning and it reminded for some reason of Peter Pan - thank you for taking 'me' back to a time and place - only great writers can evoke such memories and I shall post this to my FACEBOOK page with a direct link back here so hopefully more people can share in this.
I sincerely hope you are having a nice 'fall' weekend although I still go into the water until the end of the month here as the lake is still warm.

Dim although this Poet's youth was fraught with sadness
and madness, the love of my mother shone brightly in my
heart for she was the catalyst that kept us united not
apart.
It's her love that I carry forever in my heart
and soul and remember the good times and scribe mostly
about the hurts Yet dear friend I remember the outdoors
so well, we frolicked in the streets until mama called so sweet to us children it's past nine time for your sleep.
I to smelled the flowers, saw the seasons come and
go with gusto and fondly recall pleasanter things and try
to bury the rest.
Thank you Dim for sharing your past, I am so pleased you had a healthy family life and fun with your siblings and mom and dad...hugs to you from the Saddle.
What a nice poetic sharing of your childhood memories! And from all the lovely comments, I can see you are appreciated, as you should be!
It is wonderful to learn little bits and fractions about friends here on HubPages. Just little glimpses into each other's worlds, and a sence of kindered souls!
Thank you so much!
I marvel at writers who are able to evoke such emotion through poetry. Bravo!
We're so beautifully mired in memories.
